ABN AMRO Open Venue Guide: Rotterdam Ahoy

The ABN AMRO Open is played at Rotterdam Ahoy, the Netherlands’ largest multi-purpose indoor venue, in the south of the city. The tournament has called Ahoy home since it began in the early 1970s, making it one of the longest-running indoor events on the ATP Tour.

The Ahoy Arena

Configured for tennis, the Ahoy Arena seats around 15,800, genuinely large for an ATP 500 event, closer in size to venues used for Masters 1000 tournaments. It’s fully indoor, so there’s no weather risk at any point in the week, and the atmosphere is known for being loud and close to the court, especially when a Dutch player is on.

Getting to Rotterdam Ahoy

Metro lines D and E stop at Zuidplein, a five-minute walk from the Ahoy entrance, and it’s the most straightforward way to arrive. Rotterdam Centraal connects easily by metro for anyone coming from further afield, including day-trippers from Amsterdam via the direct intercity train. Parking is available at the venue, but public transport is generally the easier option on the busier evening sessions.

Indoors, whatever the weather

February in Rotterdam is cold outside, typically only a few degrees above freezing, but it makes no difference once you’re inside. Unlike every outdoor tournament in this guide, from Monte-Carlo to Roland Garros, the ABN AMRO Open never loses time to rain or wind. It’s worth dressing for the walk from the metro rather than the match itself.
