Day 1 — First round, Court Philippe-Chatrier

Opening day on Court Philippe-Chatrier sets the tone for the fortnight. Three matches across the day session, typically featuring seeded players in the first round. The draw is full, the tournament is fresh, and the crowd arrives ready for two weeks of clay court tennis.

The order of play for Day 1 is confirmed the evening before. You will know the date of your session well in advance, but the specific match-ups are published 24 hours ahead. In the first round, top seeds are regularly scheduled on Chatrier, which makes this one of the more reliable days for seeing high-ranked players.

A Chatrier ticket also gives you access to all Outside Courts throughout the day, where first round matches run simultaneously across multiple courts.

Court Philippe-Chatrier — seating guide

Court Philippe-Chatrier holds around 15,000 spectators across four stands: Borotra (behind the umpire, west side), Cochet (opposite the umpire, east side), Brugnon (short side, north), and Lacoste (short side, south). The court has a retractable roof added in 2020, which means play continues in all weather.

Category 3 seats are in the upper half of the second tier — a full view of the court at the most accessible price point. Category 2 seats are in the lower half of the second tier, closer to the action. Category 1 seats are in the upper half of the first tier, directly behind the Loge section. Category OR seats are in the front rows of the first tier, the closest non-hospitality seats to the court. Loge seats are courtside hospitality positions in the Borotra, Cochet, and Lacoste stands.

The Borotra stand (west) offers shade in the afternoon. The Cochet stand (east) catches more sun. Both players sit on the Borotra side during changeovers, and the umpire’s chair is on that side as well.

Buying Day 1 tickets

Roland Garros tickets are distributed through the official FFT ballot, which opens in autumn each year. First round Chatrier sessions are popular in the ballot due to the guaranteed high-profile scheduling on opening day.

Tennis Ticket Service sources tickets from the secondary market. Prices are above face value and reflect current supply and demand. Every order comes with two guarantees: seats are always grouped in pairs, and you receive the category you ordered or a better one.

Cancellation policy

Cancellations are possible but subject to conditions. Orders cannot be cancelled within one month before the start of the tournament. For cancellations more than four months before the event, 50% of the ticket price is refunded. Between one and four months before the event, 40% is refunded.
