The final second-round matches wrap up early in the session while Round of 16 matches — the last sixteen players in the draw — take over for the afternoon. By the end of play on Day 5 the quarterfinal lineup is set. Attending on this day means you’re watching the tournament resolve its upper half.

Round of 16 opponents at the Monte Carlo Masters are all ranked inside the world’s top 50, and usually top 30. Everyone who’s had a difficult path through qualifying and the earlier rounds has been tested. Everyone who cruised through two matches is now playing someone who won’t give an inch.
